Welcome back, Brendan:) I've always considered Tourette's Syndrome a special form of catharsis. Hyper-catharsis, perhaps.

The fish is an idea, Miss Sophie. Just as each person and situation is an idea. All situations have a precedent (see the fish hooks in the fish's mouth), and there's a delight (or a victory, see the poem) in wrestling with them. This poem isn't abou…

Ah yes, Miss Naomi, the time off I have talk with Mr Emel about the 'time off'. He say it is "a teleological concept much like a self-fulfilling prophesy. That is, the asking is the same as receiving. Therefore, ask no more." It is difficult conce…

Why don't you and BMac dwell on this for a while. We can all meet on campus to discuss (if Mr Emel will give you time off).

I get in mental knots. Tangles. Sometimes I think I won't find my way out. I'm teetering on the edge of sanity. But I kinda like it this way.

I'm selfish and generous and kind and very cruel and clever and so stupid and artistic and dull and straight and spirally - like a slinky. I'm indecisive and so adamant (thanks Robbie). Sometimes I make good choices...well, you can guess the rest.

Here are my favorite books:

Catcher in the Rye
Blindness - Jose Saramago;
Anything by Chuck Palahniuk - especially Rant.
Angela Carter - The Bloody Chamber
Where the Wild Things Are
Lolita - Vlad Nabakov
Slaughterhouse Five Kurt Vonnegut

Here are my top ten films:

Donnie Darko
Pulp Fiction
Scarface
Gone with the Wind
Reservoir Dogs
Fight Club
Breakfast Club

That's only seven. You'll have to wait for the rest - 'til we get to know each other better.

Writing Tips

This is a fab collection of writing tips.

I love writing tips. They're my friends when the flow is as painful as that of a man with prostate issues. They're my version of Confession. I go ticking through them mouthing "no", "no", "no" until I hit a "yes" and with it, the realisation that my writing soul isn't as pristine as I thought it was. Ten "Hail Marys" (or the writer's version - recitations of Shakespeare's sonnet 34) ensue. Most of all, when I read them, I feel as though I'm wor… Continue

Elizabeth Bishop Poem - A Response to BMac

The Fish

I caught a tremendous fish
and held him beside the boat
half out of water, with my hook
fast in a corner of his mouth.
He didn't fight.
He hadn't fought at all.
He hung a grunting weight,
battered and venerable
and homely. Here and there
his brown skin hung in strips
like ancient wallpaper,
and its pattern of darker brown
was like wallpaper:
shapes like full-blown roses
stained and lost through age.
He was speckled and barnacles,
fine rosettes of lime,
and infested
with tiny white sea-… Continue

Le Freak

You can tell a lot about a person by who their heroes are. Take the twelve disciples, for instance. With them being big followers of Jesus and all, there was probably no way that any of that lot were going to be into, say, death metal or knocking off bottle shops. Same goes for a more recent example – Brad Pitt. Celebrity Magazine lists his influences as: Harrison Ford, Gary Cooper and Lawrence Olivier. Just from knowing that, we get a picture of Mr Pitt. He digs conservative good looks, rather… Continue

Will defiently join the QWC this week. I've been meaning to do it for quite some time but just haven't got around to it. I haven't figured out who is tutoring me, I have it on Thursday at 10, Building C G.48. As for the IM, thanks for pointing that out to me, I'm sure it will come in handy!

Yes I am doing 116. I have decided to do a Bachelor of Arts, Creative Writing.
I don't think I will miss a single lecture or tutorial in introduction to creative writing, as I know will be my favourite class this semester.
(besides uni's not cheap, why bother enrolling and paying for it all if your never going to attend the lessons an actually try and learn as much as possible) LOL....
I want to be an author.

Oh dont worry I will run...! Haha. Jokes. Well I am only 19, I finished grade 12 in 07. Had a gap year and a half where I studied at Tafe for 6 months, then worked and travelled..! Realised what direction I wanted to take my life and enrolled at USC.!

A link would be great, thanks Naomi. I don't know whether 'nasty' is the word I'd use, but it does look like there's a corruption on the profile page. I'll get the publisher to fix it up.

cheers Richard
