Thanks, Cailtin. :) I was even sneakier than I first thought re: word count, as at time of doing the drafts for story I just wanted to show a particular kind of character or even just use a common term, like make-or-beak, for getting the main meanin…

Many thanks, Naomi. It was soooo good to simply complete a story (instead of just endless noting and first drafts) and get it into print somewhere. :) I'll be happy to post the whole story shortly, if you like, as soon as I re-check the conditons re…

Bad Sentence Contest; my Bad Sentence

Hi all

The recent release of results for annual Bulwer-Lytton Bad Sentence Contest 'inspired' me to try* one myself:

When the expensively-swimsuited Catriona saw the turd in the surf, it reminded her - with a sudden and truly cliche-worthy horror - that she had once again completely forgotten to clean out the litter tray for her boss's five beloved cats, and that as a result it would be a dark and stormy night before he once again trusted her with the keys to his Bold&a

Armchair travel: finding writers' retreats around the world

Checking out Writers' retreats in various countries is a kind of 'armchair travel' I really enjoy. I've been doing a bit of it in last week or two, and have already posted a few sites including 'Varuna' in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney. Not all retreats are specially set up for writers -they might be general health retreats, artists' colonies that also welcome writers or even Bed&Breakfast places. Readily-accessed photos showing scenic surrounds was one of my search criteria for this lis… Continue

Happy New Year! and happy reading!

Hi everyone,

First of all: Happy New Year!
Just as important: all the very best for a Personal Best Creative Year in 2010. Granted that comes true for us, Scriberspace will be one seriously buzzing, creative, inspiring and fun online place to be. :)

In the last weeks of '09, I was thinking about the kinds of publications, bookshops and websites I most often check out (or if not often, go to them for the more obscure titles, review essays, interviews with writers etc) for info about reading mat… Continue

Micro-story for Christmas: 'Who needs a pine tree?'

Hi folks,

Here's the full micro-story, all 140 words of it:

'Who needs a pine tree?'

On the last mail day before Christmas, Kirk-the-emerging-writer is desperate for his result in a writing contest. It'll be make-or-break news for Christmas, too.

He perches on the lowest step of his unit block's stairwell, strains his hearing for a hint of the postie's bike. Tyres on cement, a small engine throttles down: Kirk is ready to receive! The postie hands him a few envelopes and movie magazines, th… Continue

Good writing news: my Christmas-themed micro-story in print

*Happy dance* Had a Christmas-themed micro-story included in newest issue of e-news put out by ACT Writers' Centre. First micro-story I'd tried writing (and finished) in nearly a couple of months.

The story is titled 'Who needs a pine tree?' - about an emerging writer who gets some big news just before the Christmas mail deliveries stop.

Hope the last weeks of 2009 give a lot of happy writing news to Sspace members.

Cheers
Tim

Hey Tim. If you go to settings on the right, you can make your own profile page, it can run a few apps, take images and video etc. Let me know if I can promote an event on the events box.
