Yesterday, the winners of the 2009 John Marsden Prize for Young Australian Writers was announced. Continuing Scriber-Space's winning streak, as established by the illustrious Tim Roberts, my poem 'The Wolves Go' was awarded as Highly Commended. :)
John Marsden had this to say:
'This is a disturbing, beautifully written poem. From the opening line we know we are in interesting hands. Ominous, sinister, but a work of art. The poet plunders old stories to take us into a world where nothing is safe. Niceness is a long way away.
'Although these last three poems were "only" commended, I believe all three writers have already surpassed the standard by which poems are considered publishable, and the standard by which poets are considered "professionals". These entries were not as spectacular as the three that I placed first, second and third, but they are authentic, sophisticated and wholly successful, written with the certitude that marks out true poets.'
OMG! That's officially my first review EVER! And it's not even scathing!
You can read my entry, along with the other winning entries,
